What is volunteerism?

Before we even start what is volunteering on the first place?

It is the process whereby an individual offers services for the benefit of the community and does not expect to be paid in return

What is a volunteer then?

According to the United Nations volunteering is the giving of services willingly for public benefit where money is not the principal motivating factor

People often ask “why do we volunteer?”

• Give back selflessly
• To be seen
• Boost public image
• Increase the network of people one knows
• Gain work experience and skills
• Help those in need after feeling guilty and emphathetic
• Inorder to get a sense of belonging and identity

After volunteering what do you gain ,I mean why waste time and energy on this?🤷🤷🤷

• It promotes unity among community
• Helps improve way of life for the community and it’s members
• Individuals who volunteer often feel good about themselves
• After volunteering one gains love and a sense of belonging as the community or organisation appreciates your actions and incorporates you into it in one way or the other
• Personal growth increases over time
• One has a chance to learn and interact with people of different cultures and traditions thus you learn a lot

What else should you know?

Volunteering is considered an ultrustic activity where an individual or a group of people provide services for social gain so as to benefit another person group or organisation and not self

NB:By volunteering you can get a job and get to boost your CV

Let me tell you a secret!!!

I once got to hear my mentor talk and he recalled the several number of times he volunteered to a certain NGO and when there was slot for an employee he was the first choice and now he is earning his clean cut of salary and gets to care for his family.

What about me ?

You know after all this knowledge has been impacted on me ,I have this crazy idea that I want to do over the holidays .I personally love the museum and would like to volunteer there for a start.I therefore challenge you to volunteer at least once and tell me your experience and views

NB: Remember to channel your efforts in the right field and not volunteer in a place that won’t show life after you volunteer .For example cleaning a pig for it to get into the mud again!
